Pastel of a still life that challenges the artist with whites, transparency and shadows. I would like to get back to mark making. The soft pastels I use now make that very hard. They are so buttery that they produce a smooth surface. So I used Nupastels for this piece. The cloth I thought lent itself to a cros hatch technique. Nupastels also produce sharper edges which this composition has a lot of. I placed the cluster of berries close to the transparent plate with egg and I liked the idea of circles and a square so I squared off the cloth. Nupastels on 8”x10” UArt paper.
