A Warm Spring Afternoon

Before I became an urban sketcher, it would be hard for me to approach strangers and make a request. But that day I walked up to my neighbour and asked him if I could paint his tulips. ' Excuse me. Are these your tulips?' 'They are my wife's.' 'Do you mind if I sit there and paint them?' 'what?' ' I would like to sketch these tulips if that's ok.' 'Sure! Whatever you want!' Then his teenage son offered me a chair and he offered me a soda. I didn't accept the offer but I was grateful. The wife later came to check on me and was surprised to see I incorporated the fire hydrant in my painting. 'Wow, I will now look at the fire hydrant differently!'
