A favorite morning sight of my brother and his horses greeting the morning for release to the paddock. Lux Archival paper with Rembrandts for underpainting and alcohol wash to establish dark areas and contrast for the browns and umbers. Goal was to maintain the dark surrounding area with pastels and pastel highlights of the emerging sunlight while establishing the brown and umber shades for other areas. A quick fixative spray was used on horse to maintain his deep color, especially rear quarter - helped with highlights for hat. Final stumble with Schmincke added to bright highlights. Was a challenge to maintain dark and light contrast and took some wipe offs, but think I succeeded in the end. Certainly continued to learn a lot!
