This is a rescue Great Horned owl that was being shown at a bird lecture I attended at the Indiana Dunes Birding Festival two years ago. While the owl can no longer fly because of a broken wing, its eyes and ears still work just fine. It became hyper aware of my big black camera as soon as I held it up to my face to take pics. When it glared at me, I snapped the pic and got my lucky shot to use as a reference photo. What a beautiful creature!
