Pensive

My muse is also my podiatrist! I approached her about modelling with some trepidation. However, my fears were unfounded, as she was quite willing. My daughter and I spent some time photographing her at a local beach and I am hopeful of using a number of the images achieved for inspiration of artworks. The morning sun was quite low and strong, which caused Danni to squint somewhat. and she looked lost in her own thoughts, hence the title.

I felt that the strong tonal range produced by the low sun suited itself to a tonal painting. I gridded up the photograph and the paper in order to enlarge the image correctly. I used a combination of different pastel brands and charcoal in order to produce the piece, comparing back and forth to ensure accuracy.
