I love looking at old sepia photographs. The viewer is instantly transported back in time. The reference photo for this painting was a slide from my father's old files and depicts a horse-drawn tobacco harvester (his uncle John Buck) in Ohio. I used coffee ink for an underpainting and finished with ochres and umbers in various brands of pastels for the monochromatic scheme.
