I knew this was the image of my little greyhound that I was going to paint as soon as I took the shot. They spend a lot of time posing as is their nature but this pose was perfect with the light hitting just right. I went with a square format because of the up close personal space of my little muse. I think it helped to bring the viewer in right to the focal point of her eye. This was done on Uart 300 paper with various hard pastels to start and finishing with soft pastels and pencils for the detail. Although I’ve done many pets, my personal muse made this painting an easy process and a personal favorite.
