I created this painting using UArt 600 paper and a variety of pastels.
The Varied Thrush is a common winter resident where I live near the Oregon Coast. I love to hear their reedy call wafting through the mature forest surrounding my home and enjoy seeing them in berry bushes or on the ground seeking food beneath old leaves. Occasionally, they move to higher perches to sing or move between foraging sites. This past year however, they did not appear for their annual visit and painting this piece helped to fill that void. I really hope to see them this coming winter as I have learned that they are now classified as a common bird in steep decline.
