Dry pastel has been my primary medium for about 35 years. The immediacy of application and vibrant of color is an inspiration I enjoy. My usual paper is textured, and that’s what I used for this painting. However, I added extra texture in the focal tree by applying Art Spectrum’s ColorFix medium with a palette knife. I saw this gloriously beautiful tree while driving home after having taught an art class and knew I didn’t have time to stop to paint it so took a quick photo, and hoped my memory would fill in details.
